- Itinerary: There are 6 to 12-day wilderness expeditions along the British
Columbia and Southeast Alaska coast. Various trips focus on the Queen Charlotte
Islands and Haida Homeland, Great Bear Rainforest, Kitlope River Valley Wilderness
Sanctuary, Southeast Alaska, Northern Fjords, Humpback Whales, and Native Culture.
They also offer sail-training programs for up to 15 participants in the Canadian
Gulf Islands from March until May and at other times by
request.
- Cabins: 4. Each cabin has one double and one single upper bunk, a skylight,
porthole, and washbasin. Sail trainees use the 4 cabins plus 2 single bunks
in the pilothouse.
- Dining: Meals are served below deck, in the pilothouse, or on deck.
Meals are home-style; complimentary wine is served with dinner. Dietary
restrictions can be accommodated.
- Dress: Casual, suggest warm layered clothing.
- Facilities & Activities: This is a sailing ship that visits remote wilderness,
with shore expeditions by two zodiacs and four ocean-going kayaks. Interpretive
walks ashore are guided by a naturalist or native interpreter. Focus is on the
natural and cultural history of the areas. There are guided walks through temperate
rainforest, sub-alpine hikes, native sites with totem poles, and soaks in a
natural hot spring. Itinerary is flexible and unhurried, taking in the wildlife along the way
such as orca, humpack, and
minke whales, grizzly, black and kermode bear. The vessel is also a sail training
ship and can offer certification from competent crew level to advanced certification
with the International Sail and Power Association programs.
